Mario Morgan (°1984, SA) is an artist, designer, art director and photographer. His work explores the relationship between the moment and the moment as observed and interpreted. By emphasising surrealist nuances, Mario creates with daily, recognizable elements, an unprecedented situation in which the viewer is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his position.
With influences as diverse as Richard Avedon, Leonardo Da Vinci, Picasso, his mother and the divine I AM, what starts out as contemplation soon becomes moulded into a dialectic of magical awakenings, leaving only the inevitability of a new reality.
Working mainly in black and white, and every shade of grey in between, his photos make contact with urban spaces and human faces. It challenges the binaries we continually construct between Self and Other.
With a subtle minimalism, he creates work in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual and inspired art can be found. .
As temporal replicas become reconfigured through studious and critical practice, the viewer is left with an epitaph for the eccentricities of our culture
